Rick Gasko - Bachelor Party. Not even Tawny Kitaen's shitty attempt at "acting" can ruin this movie for me. Never get tired of watching it.

I am so proud of my home state tonight. Senator Alessi, I wasn't a fan when I lived near your district, but you have my utmost admiration in light of your courageous vote tonight.
In case anyone missed it - New York has voted in favor of gay marriage. In 30 days, same sex marriages will start to take place and no one can invalidate them. It's wonderful and amazing and I'm sad that North Carolina is moving backward - stricter abortion limits, ending funding for Planned Parenthood (yeah, that makes sense), and I think they're also going to try for a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage. Gotta love the south.
But New York! Wonderful New York with its bi-partisan vote - four Republicans crossing the aisle to do the right thing. It's so amazing in light of the insanity going on in other Republican controlled states. Andrew Cuomo has turned out to be a hell of a governor and I can't even imagine the giant party going on in Times Square right now. Well, yes I can, actually. No residency requirement means that people will be pouring in from all over the country, which will also be an economic boon for the state. A much needed boost for a depressed economy.
I'm pretty much just rambling now, but to all of the gay New Yorkers out there (and everyone else who has been waiting for this day) my husband and I offer a hearty CONGRATULATIONS!

I have several - Beyond the Valley of the Dolls (so awesome, it's indescribable), Phantom of the Paradise (Paul Williams, great music) , Rocky Horror Picture Show, Dead Alive (zombie baby, that's all that needs to be said) and Spider Baby, which is in a class all its own. If you have not seen any of these movies, you MUST, because you are totally missing out.

Had the privilege of seeing Spring Awakening today. LOVED LOVED LOVED it, although seeing people simulating sex on a stage in front of you is strange, as opposed to seeing it on a tv screen. Didn't really need the visual of Jake Epstein's bare ass pumping away, thank you very much. Yes, Jake Epstein from Degrassi played Melchior. He was sort of blown off the stage by some of his castmates - his vocals were decent, but nothing amazing. But the boy playing Moritz and the girl playing Martha were awesome. Based on her voice, I thought this girl was taking time off from fronting a rock band or something, but she was fresh from high school and making her professional debut in this touring company. Bought the t-shirt, bought the soundtrack. If I was younger and living in NY instead of NC, I would have gotten the shirt that said "There's a moment you know..." on the front, and "You're Fucked" on the back. Instead I just got the regular Spring Awakening logo. Anyway, I'd see the show again in a heartbeat. We have tickets for Jersey Boys (we're taking my mother-in-law), and I'm hoping to get Wicked when they come out in March. Then I'll have seen all of the current shows that sound good to me.
Things have been crazy. Youngest had to have surgery on his shoulder in September, along with physical therapy twice a week. We found a family of cats living under our shed in July (the mom belonged to our neighbors, but obviously, they didn't give a crap about her since she was half starved and her fur was so matted I had to cut huge pieces of it off). They were flea infested and had worms. After an otherwise clean bill of health from the vet, I gave all six of them a bath and treated them for the fleas and we adopted the whole gang. My mother-in-law took the mom and the only boy and we took the four girls - three solid black and one grey tiger. I now have six cats and at least three or four sleep on top of me every night. We have paid for vet exams, front declaw and spaying. Money we really didn't have, but I wouldn't have been able to sleep at night if we'd left them outside and as long as my husband was going to uncharacteristically go along with it, who was I to disagree? If my Out of SIght Litter boxes would just hurry up and arrive, my life would be so much easier.
Finally got a diagnosis of Sjogren's from a new rheumatologist. Also Fibromyalgia and a touch of arthritis. Wasn't happy about him disregarding my stomach issues as unrelated to Sjogren's, especially after I went to Sjogren's.org and saw Digestive problems listed under symptoms. Why do doctors not listen? WHY? At least there are internet resources for this stuff that are reputable. He did put me back on hydroxychloriquine, hopefully it will help with some of symptoms. And I need to see the eye doctor for prescription eye drops and my worsening vision.
I'm currently buried under a ton of quality television on my dvr. Too many shows to possibly keep up with: Secret Life, Make it or Break It, Greek, Chuck, Castle, Better Off Ted, American Idol, Leverage, Burn Notice, Modern Family, Bones, Fringe, The Office, 30 Rock, Grey's Anatomy, Private Practice, Project Runway, Spartacus: Blood and Sand, and The Amazing Race and Survivor will be starting up again. And Glee will be back in the spring. Oh, and that new animated show on FX - Archer. It's hilarious. So many shows, so very little time. I thnk I'll go watch something now.

TAR had Flying (Rolling?) Cheese Wheels of Death tonight. To say it was the most awesome thing ever is an understatement. And I want to put Mike and Mel White and their French Bulldogs in my pocket and take them home. Jack Black must be having a field day watching them. I have very high hopes for this season.
In other news, I was fortunate enough to see Rent two weeks ago. I can't believe it's closing, because every time I've seen it, I've immediately wanted to see it again. And Anthony Rapp and Adam Pascal were incredible. The recorded soundtrack does not do Adam's voice justice at ALL. I'm really, really sad to see this production go. Now if only Spring Awakening would come to Charlotte...

I personally love It's a Wonderful Life (mostly the first two thirds, anyway) and A Christmas Story will never get old. The original Grinch, Charlie Brown and Love, Actually probably round out my list of favorites. In fact, I've been trying to get my husband to watch Love, Actually with me all week, and I think tonight I'm going to force him, because it's a movie that is better when it's shared.
TV had some good Christmas episodes this year - Chuck and The Office, most notably.

Am I the only one watching Skins on BBCA? I recorded it back when it started and now I'm working my way through season 2. It's brilliant, and unlike any American teen show, ever. Season one comes out on dvd on my birthday, so I think I'll just treat myself, because I would totally watch it all again and again and not having all the "fucks" blanked out would be a bonus.
Seriously, it's highly addictive and the kids are both funny and heartbreaking - manipulative, charismatic Tony, who screws with everyone just because he can; his best friend Sid, who's sweet, awkward, and unfortunately in love with Tony's girlfriend, Michelle - the sexpot of the group; spacey, fragile, anorexic flower child Cassie (who's in love with Sid); down-to-earth musically gifted Jal, who sees through everyone's bullshit and likes them anyway; beautiful, artistic, openly gay Maxxie, who wants to be a professional dancer, and his best friend Anwar, who tries to reconcile being a good Muslim with wanting to get high and get laid like all the other kids; Chris, self medicating any way he can to dull the pain of his dysfunctional upbringing, while trying to pursue a relationship with one of his teachers... plus an assortment of adults who are even more fucked up than the kids. Each episode features a particular member of the gang, and while there's plenty of angst, there are no "very special episodes," which is extremely refreshing.
Check it out. It's awesome.
Thus endeth my random six month post.

The Adventures of Brisco County, Jr., Angel, Buffy, Firefly, Touching Evil (USA version), Dead Like Me, Wolf Lake, Forever Knight, Swingtown, and I'm sure there are others, snuffed out way before their time. The worst offense is when they just leave a show dangling, without any real closure.

so I guess I must post. My life in a nutshell:
I hate my job, it's boredom personified. I actually miss the high stress of my previous position, even the killer night shift. That says it all right there. I wish hubby's business was off the ground already and making a killing so I could quit. I can dream, can't I?
Good news: I've lost about 30 pounds. Bad news: I've been really bad for about two weeks now and have to get back to weight watchers, pronto.
Firstborn is almost done with her first year of college. Full scholarship, making Dean's list, Chancellor's list, etc. Her roommate is awesome and a perfect match for her personality-wise. There is, however, an invisible line through the middle of the room dividing it into the mess on Alex's side and the neat as a pin roommate's side. They have chosen to remain together next year, so yay!
Middle child is a sophomore now and he's dating a senior who he talks to on the phone nearly every night, sometimes until midnight. However, when asked if they are a couple, he replies "I dunno." She has a job and a car and pays her own way on the dates. Next year he will be on the varsity football team and I'm almost a little frightened at the possibilities of him being pursued by more girls. We still have not been allowed to meet this current one.
Youngest son, at 13, has already had a stalkerish girlfriend. I think it's over now. At least, I hope so, with every fiber of my being. He is the one I worry about most.
My current viewing habits are many and varied, and I have two dvrs that are almost full. Dancing with the Stars; Greek; Bones; House - next week!; American Idol (LOVE David Cook); Reaper; Survivor; The Office; My Name is Earl; Ugly Betty; Grey's Anatomy - this week!; Witchblade (animated); Torchwood; Robin Hood - this week!; Degrassi (Oh, Jay, how I love your troublemaking, gonorrhea spreading; romantic, lying ways); Graham Norton; The Riches; Daily Show; Colbert Report...gee, did I leave anything out? It's a sickness, I know.
Eagerly awaiting the return of Burn Notice, Rescue Me, Nip Tuck, Project Runway, Amazing Race and I'm sure numerous others. I will never, ever be caught up.
Movie rec: Dead Birds, starring Henry Thomas, Patrick Fugit and Isaiah Washington. Civil war soldiers, bank robbing and demons. Surprisingly well done and of course well acted. Made me jump out of my seat several times. It's airing on TMC and it's on demand.
Music: I'm addicted to the Once soundtrack and the Juno soundtrack. Recent purchases have included the soundtrack to Beyond the Valley of the Dolls; The Frames - Fitzcarraldo; Robert Plant and Alison Krauss - Raising Sand; Leonard Cohen I'm Your Man soundtrack.
OH! Has anyone every sent fresh fruit through the mail? I want to send Alex some mangoes, but I'm not sure if there's anything special I need to do. She's only two and a half hours away, so it's not going far. I'm also thinking of sending her and her roommate an assortment of truffles from The Chocolate Fetish for their finals. Here's the website if anyone is interested - www.chocolatefetish.com Best chocolate ever. EVER. They're located in Asheville, NC.
Okay, hopefully this post will satisfy that special someone who nudged me. I do miss talking to you, so let me know when you're online.

No matter how bad my day is going, all I have to do is look at cuteoverload and all is right with the world.

BBCA is going to air the two hour premiere of Hex on June 8th. I can't wait, I can't wait, I can't wait! Hopefully, I won't forget about it before then. Now I wish they'd dust off Urban Gothic and air that too, because it looks awesome.

Am I the only one who thought Dolly Parton was a trainwreck on the Oscars? I used to think she was adorable, but now it just hurts my eyes to look at her. It also sounded as if she had her vocal cords altered to match her face. Just...no.
Still going WTF? over Best Picture. Loved all the Daily Show touches, especially the Best Actress campaign ads. (Stephen Colbert!) Hated Reese Witherspoon's speech. A real woman? And what is that, exactly?
Love George Clooney. Michelle Williams needs to eat five hundred sandwiches. And never wear that shade of yellow again. 40 Year Old Virgin should have been nominated for best original screenplay. The Oscar production values sucked this year and should in no way reflect on my boyfriend, Jon Stewart. Selma Hayak continues to make my husband go "humina-humina." It appeared as if a lot of people left their sense of humor home in that audience. Jon was right, the Pimp guys had the most fun of anyone there, except maybe George Clooney.
I really want to see A History of Violence now.

Apparently, Grey's Anatomy will rerun Thursday night at 9:30. So if your DVR screwed up recording after the Superbowl, you now have a second chance.
ETA: Go to the GA writer's blog www.greyswriters.com. There is the cutest post from Shonda about how her daughter is riveted when George is onscreen and that she yells "There's my friend!" when he appears. EVERYONE loves George.

My brother, the lifelong Pittsburgh fan, was given tickets to the Superbowl by one of his sales reps. We have a cousin who lives 45 minutes from the stadium, so he doesn't even have to pay for a hotel. Oh yeah, he was also given VIP access tickets to the Leather and Laces party tonight. Hosted by William "Refridgerator" Perry, Victoria Silvstedt, Eddie Cibrian and a couple of Survivor winners. It will be star-studded, and I'm sure it will be awesome. And the dipshit doesn't even own a digital camera. Hopefully the friend he is taking will have one. I told him to call us from the party and have a Playmate say hi to my husband. We'll see if he has the balls to actually do it.
Oh yeah, my cousin's husband paid $250 for the privilege of selling programs at the game. Still cheaper than trying to buy tickets, I'm sure.

Spikesleman tagged me and while it isn't easy to pick favorite songs out of the many fabulous ones out there, I will try. Keep in mind that these are not in any order and that favorite songs are usually subject to change, except for a couple here and there. Oh, and I can't pick just seven, so I'm cheating a little.
1. "I'm No Angel" by Greg Allman - for some reason this song hits me right in the groin every. single. time. Between the lyrics and growly voice, I'm a puddle, even though I have never once been attracted in any way to Greg himself.
2. "In Your Room" and "Precious" by Depeche Mode
3. "Save a Prayer" by Duran Duran
4. I tried to single out songs by Tom Mcrae and I just can't do it. So the entire Just Like Blood cd goes here, along with Sao Paulo Rain, Language of Fools, Precious Cargo, and My Vampire Heart.
5. "A Charming Spell" by Splashdown
6. "Moondance" by Van Morrison - same effect as I'm No Angel.
7. "Night in My Veins" and "Kid" by the Pretenders
8. "She Says" and "Numbness for Sound" by Howie Day
9. "Wild" by Poe
10. "Last Goodbye" by Jeff Buckley
There, ten is a much better number, and yet I've left out so much music that I love. I'm going to tag pyrifera, crushw_eyeliner, monimala, msaramat, and smithereen.

Tom took me to see Brokeback Mountain for my birthday. Only one theater is showing it in all of Charlotte and we got there just in time to get seats. Of course, we ended up sitting closer than usual and I had to kind of slouch and crane my neck, but it was worth it. The last 45 minutes or so nearly killed me and we both walked out in a sort of stunned silence. My chest actually ached from watching Heath Ledger's performance, that was how real his repressed emotions felt. The best part was that Tom felt the movie just as strongly as I did - we were both in exactly the same place emotionally coming out of the theater. It's just an awesome and incredible film. Everyone should see it, but unfortunately, the people who really need to in order to get a clue about human relationships, won't.
